"At the "Meeting People" opening, comments from a young artist who calls himself E.C.S. (sic) typified the sentiments of many indie culture promoters: that artistic innovation flourishes when art is freed from the constraints of the commercial system.
"I like about 90 percent of the work here, whereas with professional artists' work, I normally only like about 10 percent of it," he said. "It doesn't seem like many of the people here feel tied to convention. They're going on raw creativity."
