Running ahead of you
Aiming on the fly
with my Super 8 mechanical camera
and you’re trying to fight it.
You hang your head and growl and you
run harder than you would
you push because you're uncomfortable and you don't know
why you agreed.
It's beyond me, but I’m just beyond you
and it's awesome,
A full screen of motion
the further away the bigger the motion
seems
the quality eases,
and time wears away
and you notice it's been going backward for a while now,
even though it's your hand on the controls.
This film running ahead of you,
with your head down,
like the antelope making his last ditch defense
without caring why, just wants to live on.
This film running ahead of you,
is one of those things I hope you will
allow me to do.
I can visualize the dark morning
in some place that I don't know I will live
where I have a basement
and a film projector and I watch this film
running ahead of you,
and your hair swings horizontally off your head,
and your body fills the screen with motion
and I am running the projector close against the wall,
so this moving picture is too small
but so is the time with you,
and I must try to save the quality of the experience,
the sharpness of the display,
to view you again in high res,
and this film I will make without your face
will be my strongest spark for
seeing your hiddenness,
your eyes and nose, cheeks and mouth,
plus the parts of you I am not allowed.
