SAN FRANCISCO (CBS MarketWatch) - In a short and bizarre press conference, RollingblackoutS frontman Alexander Mann (A. Mann) issued an ultimatum to the various music groups that have been trying to capitalize on the recent energy problems in California by naming their bands "The Rolling Blackouts," or some variation of the name.
The Sonicpress entertainment network released a statement to the press on the band's behalf this morning, announcing the press conference, which was inexplicably held "after the close of regular market trading." The statement alleged that "any and all music groups or individual musicians who operate under the name 'The Rolling Blackouts' or any variation thereof must seek permission from, or an alliance with RollingblackoutS, holder of international rights to the name. RollingblackoutS have been recording music since 1995, and are distributed internationally through Toronto's Geisha Star Records."
At the press conference, A. Mann made the following statement :
"Good afternoon, I am Alexander Mann, psychotic cult rock hero. We are tired of using legal action to unmake other bands who have only too late realized the importance of RollingblackoutS. Suing each and every one of you is a tiring, repetitious action, and only makes my lawyer fatter. I propose a common sense solution: JOIN OR DIE. RollingblackoutS isn't just about jet setting, limousines and trashing hotel rooms, it's about the music. Please send your demo tapes to RollingblackoutS c/o Sonicpress, 1936 SE 34th Ave., Portland OR 97214.
We will pick the best song of your medium and allow the creator access to the rerecording process. These are the only circumstances under which a musician will be allowed to record or perform under the name RollingblackoutS.
I didn't spend the last seven years of my life sleeping with Euro-trash and smoking spliffs in Tiananmen Square to let some punk brats from San Diego try to lift our name. There is also the other alternative, and for those considering this, I hope you are well funded!"
He then shouted, "Please finish this press conference!", waited a moment with wide, almost manic, eyes, and then strolled out, leaving a room full of uncomfortable reporters.
